I am an American and Dutch citizen who has lived in Groningen for the past 20 years with my Dutch husband. Trained as a PhD scientist in cellular and molecular biology and working as a research scientist for a biotech company in the USA, I made a career switch several years after moving to the Netherlands. I had became actively involved in assisting foreigners who came to the Northern Netherlands to live, work or study through the organization Stichting Connect. By providing information, personal guidance and organizing events and activities, I found my passion in helping internationals to settle with ease and enjoy living in my adopted country. After three years, I became the General Manager for Stichting Connect International and made the change in careers from science to service. Nearly two years ago, I also became the Operations Manager for the International Welcome Center North, a one-stop shop for international people living in Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe.
